BOHEMI
Red d.o.c.

This award-winning wine is one of the true prides of Lumbardy: its blend of red grapes is made up of 55% Barbera, 25% Croatina and 20% Pinot Nero, grown in very old vineyards, giving it structure and character. Refined in small, new bay-oak tubs for 24 months, Bohemi is a considerably full-bodied, red wine with strong personality.

Colour
Deep, ruby-red with garnet overtones.

Bouquet
Ample, ethereal, persistent, with an elegant scent of pansies, dog-roses, reminiscent of dried prunes.

Taste
Warm, full-bodied, velvety, with excellent texture and personality, harmonizing with a hint of vanilla.

Consumption
With an ideal serving temperature of 12-15°C, Bohemi blends well with first courses including meat sauces, red meats, game and cheeses, preferably mature.

Vines
55% Barbera – 25% Croatina – 20% Pinot Nero. Bohemi is produced exclusively from historic vines, up to 50 years old.

Terrain
2 hectares of sandy-clayey soil, mainly facing South/South-West, located in Mairano di Casteggio, between 150 and 200 metres above sea-level.

Cultivation
The land is cultivated with no trace whatever of antibotritics or synthetic products and treatment of the soil is restricted to the indispensable. The Guyot method of cultivation is used to guarantee maximum, qualitative uniformity.
Each year meticulous elimination of the less uniform bunches is carried out before the effective ripening of the grapes (July).
The yield per hectare amounts to 500 kilos of grapes, picked from an average 4,000 stems.

Harvest
Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand, together with meticulous sorting of the bunches. During the picking, dry ice is used to protect the grapes from oxidation and to avoid temperature upswings.

Vinification
The grapes are gathered at different times and processed separately. Fermentation, with maceration of the tough skins, lasts an average 7 to 15 days, according to the variety of vine, at a maximum temperature of 28°C.

Refining
In November the three varieties are placed separately in small, new French bay-oak barrels. During this phase too, different woods and different time-scales - from 12 to 24 months - are used, each adapted to the original vine. Then, after mixing, Bohemi rests in steel vats for a further few months to facilitate the balancing of the organoleptic components.

Bottling
Maximum, anti-oxygen protection is ensured during the bottling phase. After a final, rigorous, quality control, and at least 6 months after bottling, the wine is placed on sale.

Storage
Storage takes place in a specifically appointed warehouse, air-conditioned at a constant 15°C.
